Search Twenty Three: Video

[The video flickers to life, for once not from a pokemon but by Harry himself. He waves slightly.]

Hello, sorry to bother people. I just have a question I'd like to ask the people here.

I know pokemon are the main thing in this world. Catching, training and breeding them seem to be what we're here for. I was just wondering if there were people here who didn't do anything like that. And if so, what sort of things do you do in a world surrounded by them?

Just curious, so if you think I'm being nosy feel free to ignore this.

You're probably right.

Makes you wonder how many types there could be out there.

It does! And where do they come from? And there must be someone to spend months and years learning everything there is to know about those new pokemon. Someone has to fill the pokedex.

Scientists maybe? Though you'd think we'd hear more about them.

As to where they come from.... well most of my guesses are probably wrong so I'll just be confused.

Yes! Where are these scientists? I wonder if they've all turned their attention to the sudden mass of people appearing in their world...

...or perhaps, the Pokemon are newcomers just like ourselves.

I'm sure a lot of them must. I mean it would be a pretty big thing to have people dumped from other worlds into yours....

All of them? Or just the new ones?

....this would have to have been going on for ....who knows how long if that were the case. With all the old records they have here of pokemon.

Perhaps...But I've only found myself in a strange land once before and I remember how I got there.

Maybe that isn't the case. I'm sure most of us remember what we were doing before we arrived, but so far nobody I know remembers how. So maybe that's not it...anyhow!

What brought this on? Breeding, Training, and Catching losing their appeal? I admit, I fell into a similar rut last year.

[Harry certainly remembers the last thing he was doing. It was called dying and it was not fun. So subject change, good.]

The opposite actually. I confess it never really had much appeal to me at the start but I think it might be a good idea to train my team more so I can defend myself better here.

Oh, well that's different! I'm sure there are plenty of people who would help you get started. It's not always easy to train young pokemon against wild ones in certain towns.

That's true. I don't plan to throw them at anything like that.

They seemed excited when I asked them about the idea of training though so hopefully it won't be too hard on them.

Great! I'm glad they're on board. I have a few who are more content being housepets. Things even out. Now I can't help but ask who you're going to be training. You can learn a lot about someone from their pokemon!

Well I only actually have seven altogether.

Let's see... there's Lisa, she's my starter and a Togetic. A Pichu named Hazel who tends to start most of the trouble. There's a Hoot-Hoot we call Dally that still thinks she can see the future by spinning in circles. Norman Bates is the Woobat who thinks diving at peoples heads is a form of greeting. Cardinal the Darumaka, Cybil the Pidgeotto and Carrie the Larvesta. The trouble makers helper, the one most interested in training and shyest one of the team, respectfully.

[He rubs the back of his head.]

Sorry, talking about pokemon is a bit like talking about kids. I could probably go on.

Oh, don't apologize! I understand completely, I've got a house full of them.

They're like a pack of kids sometimes too....

What are yours like?

Well, there's Edgar, my right-hand bird. She's been with me since the very beginning and though I regret a little that I didn't know her gender when I first named her, she doesn't seem to mind! She's a troublemaker as well and earned herself a very handsome scar across her beak during our first year.

And then there's One. It feels a little silly to admit, but ever since I learned what Christmas was, I'd always wanted to receive a puppy. Low and behold, one year I got my wish! Named after my dog back home, Zero, One is incredibly excitable. When he was a puppy he burnt up every single pair of shoes I owned!

I'm glad she doesn't.

[It's taken a few years but dogs are not nearly as terrifying to him anymore. Thank goodness.]

What kind of dog pokemon is One?

One is a very spirited little Houndour!

He sounds like a handful alright. How long has he been with you?

Oh, let's see...three Christmases I think. Or-- hmm. Could it be four? Did I really get him my first Christmas here?

I'm starting to forget! I've been here too long.

Maybe you should start writing it down. It's what I do.

You don't have Christmas where you're from?

I just may try that. A memoir! And...no! Only Halloween. Or at least...not until a couple of years ago my-time. If we behaved ourselves, Santa would bring us snow once a year.

[That's odd but then again he has to remember who he's talking to.]
