[Hazel just keeps pointing as the hoot hoot stops eventually, walks off and then comes back with....a pen?]

So you ask to sew buttons in their eyes. And then what? What happens if they stay in your "otherworld".

We'll sing and play games and Mother will make them their favourite foods. They can stay with us forever, if they liked.

They just play and sing? What about learning, growing up. Living.

We'll teach them, like a mother and father should.

Parents aren't the only people who teach kids. They need to learn from school. Teachers. Other kids.

[Huh...] I'm sure Mother and I can handle that.

I don't think they'd be able to get a job based on whatever you teach them. We have schools for a reason.

A job? No need to. We can stay as a family forever. [He really sees no trouble at that... well, he didn't; Route's made him think twice.]

Kids grow up. It doesn't mean they stop being family. But that's what happens. They grow up, get jobs and have lives of their own.

That's what being a father is about. Raising them so they can grow up to be happy and have good lives.

I just want them to be happy.

[And he really does mean that.]

But removing them from the world isn't the way to do it.

No, I don't think many kids would want to.

Then they can't stay without 'em. [He looks a little sad about this. He'd like them to stay without Mother eating them, but the buttons let her take their souls.]

That's good. I'm sure they were worried sick.

There's nothing more terrifying to a parent then their child going missing.

[He nods again. But he's pretty sure they don't actually notice...]

Wouldn't want to imagine it. [He's watched three of his 'children' have buttons sewn into their eyes, trying to comfort them as a father would. Then he's watched her eat them.

[No. That would be more horrifying and heartbreaking. True and utter terror is running around looking for your child and having no idea where they are.]

[He doesn't know that of course. But the talk of sewing buttons into kids eyes and kidnapping and "otherworlds", doesn't make him trust the man. Even if he does seem well meaning.]

They're not always at home, but I'm always here if they need me. [He's entirely truthful about this.]
