[A video feed turns on and shows a tired looking middle aged man with brown hair. It's taken him awhile but apparently you can use this thing for messages? It meant ...well talking to people and right now he'd rather just close his eyes and try to figure out why he was breathing. But well, you can't put everything off.
He sighs and trying to ignore the strange creature jumping up and down on his bag behind him, speaks up]
Well so far this has been the better of the two towns I’ve woken up in. Things don’t seem to be trying to kill me as much as they did in Silent Hill anyway. Less fog and snow too....
I don’t suppose anyone would know a way for me to get home would they? My daughters still out there and I need to find her before... Well , I need to find her. Or find out what happened to her even if I can’t go back.
[He sighs, knowing he’ll regret it if he doesn’t ask.]
Also, was anyone dead before they woke up here? Because I’m really sure I was.
...Quite sure actually.

Thanks, Dad.
I think I just... needed to hear it from you.
[She'd stayed both because it was the last place they'd shared together, and because-- ... well, who the hell was gonna let a highschooler buy their own place? In any case...]
No one's come after me since... since everything went down that night. ... But finding another place probably won't hurt.
... Just in case.
Well that's one good thing about being dragged back from the dead.
[He tries to keep his tone light, with a small smile.]
Is there anything else you need to hear from me?
[In any case, she's all for lightening of the tone.]
Uh-- yeah, like, everything?
[The almost-smile turns to a real one.]
But I think we'll have time for that.
I think we will.
[... Except the police, and the nurses in the Center in Violet City. Harry did not need to know about Heather's reputation with the police and nurses of Violet City.]
And-- and my FRIENDS! You gotta meet them-- they're nothing like those creeps I used to hang out with back in high school.
[Harry would probably also be pleased to know that Heather had stuck to her guns and stayed away from the cigarettes even WITHOUT him around to scold her for it anymore.]
[Heather. What did he say. Cops are our friends....except when they're charging daddy with murder.]
They aren't are they? Well that's good to hear.
[Did not approve of those friends at all. Also yay. You won't get any lectures from him then....]
[She grins broadly.]
Betcha didn't think I could even make friends who weren't jerks anymore.
[... That's not to say that some of the friends she's made here AREN'T jerks, but still. As for the cigarettes, well, she'd be lying if she said she hadn't been tempted more than once. But she'd stayed away anyway.]
You know I was starting to wonder.
I... think you'll like a lot of the friends I've made in this place.
[Sure, one of them was an internationally-infamous jewel thief, and another was a big muscular crazy guy with daddy issues and a fatal allergy to wearing shirts, BUT HEY. At least Heather wasn't shoplifting anymore.]
They've been watching my back since day one here.
[.....Heather.....]
[In any case, she's planning on leaving the 'jewel thief' part out when introducing Harry to Kaito.]
Yeah. Nice thing about this place is there's a lot of people who look out for each other.
... I know we were always used to being on our own, but... s'kinda nice to have it the other way around. Y'know... for the first time.
[Even back in the days when Heather HAD a few decent pals, the constant moving-around had really put a crimp in her ability to make any that lasted... just a sad, inevitable consequence of needing to stay hidden. Maybe that was why she'd eventually turned to the crowd of unsavory folks who cared more about partying and shocking their conservative parents than they actually did about each other. It had been easier that way.]
I'm glad you're getting that chance.
[It had been a theory that had popped into Harry's mind. Which just made him feel worse that he was dragging her around everywhere. But her safety was more important. It didn't stop him from feeling guilty about it though.]
[Heather smiles back, although after a pause, she adds--]
... It could be a chance for you too, y'know...
The cult can't get anybody here.
[Even back home, it had still been a concern-- although nothing had happened in the year following the incident, probably largely due to the fact that the only cult members who had known Alessa's new identity and location had all wound up dead. But still. A concern.]
I thought there might be... y'know, a chance, but... s'been a year and nobody like that's shown up.
I suppose that's true...
You know I'm not good at that sort of thing though...
[Can't he just write? He's much better at talking to people when he's just asking them if they know where his daughter is.]
....It's probably not likely. But if this place can bring people who are supposed to be dead... I'm still going to be a little worried about one of them showing up here.
[Order members are going to worry him forever now.]
Anyway... yeah, I won't rule out the possibility.
But if they do show up...
[I HAVE A DOG THAT CAN SHOOT FIRE OUT OF ITS FACE. ... And friends who would gladly get violent on her behalf, should the fire-breathing dog not work.]
Let's just say we'll have the higher ground.
[You're going to make him talk to people aren't you....]
...and it's not like they can take you back to the town either.
[Besides, Harry will beat them with a tree branch if they even try.]
I'm not sayin' we should let our guard down or anything, but... this is way different than it was back home.
That little ... egg-... thingy that you were gonna name after me might not look like much, but give it a few months ...
[That wasn't to say that Heather didn't miss being able to just aim a gun and shoot in a bad situation... but she had to admit that relying on these animals wasn't quite as bad as she'd first thought it would be.]
Right.
What happens in a few months?
[Harry will miss that as well. He's already trying to figure out if he can find a pipe around here somewhere.]
Well, it's gonna get stronger the more you let it run around.
Mine did.
[Heather was (and still is) pretty much... exactly the same way. There are ALWAYS weapons available for the resourceful... you just gotta make sure not to get caught by the cops holding anything that looks like you might use it for violence.]
You just have to let it run around?
[Resourceful is something he's good at.]
Well... more specifically, you have to let it fight. Which is... um... well, kinda unavoidable.
You'll see what I mean when you leave New Bark. The wildlife around here is pretty...
[Insert clawy gestures here meant to symbolize aggression. She's not talking Silent-Hill-monster level here-- at least not YET, fortunately Route 29 is as tame as it gets-- but still not pleasant.]
The whole reason we're given those things is for protection. ... Well, and because society here kinda revolves around 'em, but... there you go.
....the wildlife is going to attack.
Does the weather randomly change to foggy snow as well?
[Please tell him this isn't some strange version of Silent Hill.]
And ....it's going to fight.
[Heather it is an egg. A happy smiling egg....yup, going to find a tree branch.]
... Well, when you put it that way...
[She holds up her hands.]
Look, it's not what it sounds like! I promise! Weird stuff happens here and-- .... and there was one time where the fog-- [Nope. NOT gonna talk about that. Not yet. Despite the fact that months had passed? It was still too soon. And it was not the kind of thing she wanted to color her father's impression of this place right after he got here.]-- but the monsters here are just-- animals, dad. They're not like the stuff from that town-- ... well, MOST of them aren't. [THERE WERE A FEW CREEPERS, she wouldn't lie.]
And--
... Yes.
... Don't look at me like that, it's tougher than it looks! A friend of mine started with one of those too and she's like-- ... she kicks butt! [Sunny the Togetic kicked ass. ... Especially because she was such a hilarious contrast to her grizzled, grouchy old trainer.]
[... And don't you dare comment on the fact that Heather had earlier stated that Togepi was not "cool" and is now contradicting herself.]
Are they as hard to kill as the stuff from that town?
....
[Just...tiny and ....]
I'll take your word for it.
[He doesn't want to put Lisa in any danger though....]
[She hesitates there. Because... despite the intensity of the fights, she's never actually... seen one of them die.]
... I'm not sure th-- ... they're really hardy. The wild ones usually give up and run or play possum before it ever comes to that.
Anyway... if you don't wanna make your starter fight, you can always uh... try and catch another one.
The more, the merrier and all that.
